I hate to have to compromise. But I don’t know if we have too much choice. I don’t think the ICE executions give anti-ICE people more leverage.

How should immigration reform be implemented in your humble opinion?

I’m not sure I’m understanding where you’re coming from here yeah, this might be ok to implement as a part of immigration reform. but the current problem is not the fact that we deport people, it’s the fact that ICE is acting like a hit squad and running around in masks with guns and not following procedures properly at all. Adding some eligibility for citizenship doesn’t prevent citizens, legal residents, and illegal immigrants alike from being shot in the street as has been happening.

Okay? This could have just been a comment. It didn’t have to be its own post

Then what do you propose we do instead? Overthrow the government ?

Yes

Literally yes. You don’t negotiate with fascists as they’re in the process of consolidating power, otherwise you get individuals like Hitler. How do you think this country was even founded? AND we never even rooted out naziism after ww2, countless nations started hiring former Nazi scientists… it’s about time we actually address the damn issues instead of acting like voting is going to do anything.

How do we overthrow the government (without getting hurt)?

You seriously think no one would get hurt?? Baby we’re getting hurt now. The gestapo is in the streets killing people AS WE SPEAK. There’s no peaceful way we can stop this at this point. Did the Nazis fall through simple discussion?? Did reasoning with Hitler work? Do you remember the Munich agreement?

I’m worried that we’re not strong enough to do another French Revolution given that the armed forces is very strong and would surely be used if we staged an violent rebellion.

There were many failed revolutions before the successful ones. And even modern day there’s been uncessful attempts at conflicts that while not truly changing a great many things, brought a lot of eyes to what was going on. When militaries murder protesters in the streets. Something has to change. And maybe nothing changes but people will see we were right

I thought that sharing the new idea for a quote would make it more visible to everyone.

That’s the point though, not everyone wants to see it. It’s better to just make comments under your one post (since they’re all related), than to flood the lgbt+ yak with multiple posts that people are not interested in seeing

Where I’m coming from is that ICE is the symptom not the disease. The disease is lack of a good immigration system. We have eleven million undocumented immigrants. There is no good reason to have so many. The system is not working. If we come together to create a hood humane immigration system, we would not have the problems we have. Mass deportation would not be implemented by a racist and xenophobic administration.

I understand what you’re saying, but they’re still kind of separate problems, imo. Yeah, we want to fix immigration, and with it fixed, ICE has no reason to exist, but like - we also want ICE to not shoot people in the meantime, reform is a long process. its less of a symptom, and more like taking poison instead of medicine. Yeah, you want to treat the sickness, and once you’re healthy you’ll stop having reason to take meds, but it’s still a more pressing concern to just quit taking poison.

We can do both. Abolish ICE and get immigration reform passed. But if we treat the symptoms (which we need to do ) without treating the disease, we could end up back where we started. We could end up with all the problems we have now.

We need humane enforcement of immigration laws. We need a system so that people can come here easily so they don’t have to cbe undocumented in the first place. We have pressing issues. No doubt about that. But we can’t lose site of the source of the problem. Or we end up with the same horrific tragedies we’re dealing with now.
