no one has ever answered this question and it’s really important to me. How bad is an IV considering that I am super used to blood draws and needles? I’m scared of IVs and want to know before top surgery.

They’re fine. If it’s in your elbow just don’t bend it all the way for too long or it’ll clog and get sore. I personally HATE when it’s in the hand. I can feel it and can’t move my hand at all or it moves and I hate that feeling, so I always request elbow if I can

if you’re used to getting blood drawn it’s super similar, it just giving something instead of taking so it feels cold and you can taste it sometimes DRINK A BUNCH OF WATER the days leading up to it so it’ll be wayyy easier

honestly not too bad just a lil uncomfortable. i did learn recently that it’s not a needle that stays in for the IV but a plastic/rubber tube so it can move around with you and won’t stab you if you bend your arm.

for me at least it feels exactly the same as a blood draw - maybe even less painful bc the people that do IVs typically have more experience

it's really very similar to blood draw. tbh it's always felt nicer to me because 1. it's positive pressure instead of negative pressure like a blood draw 2. the liquid can feel cold 3. they tape it down really nicely so it doesn't move around. as far as the 2 compare, the only thing IV does worse is it lasts longer
