I posted this in a more specific group, but I’m posting it here too. Don’t call nonbinary people eggs. We know we are trans, that is what nonbinary is. It’s transphobia. Assuming you know someone else’s identify better than they do is transphobia.

Being condescending about "awww we'll check in on (insert binary identity) in a few years" is disgusting. "Oh oh but my friend always dresses so masc!" "But this person is so clearly a trans woman!" It doesn't matter. Telling people that you know their own identity better than they do IS transphobia and mean, and often pushes us back in the closet. Even if you are correct, let people figure out their shit in their own time. You can say "hey whoever you are, I support you" and move on.

Nonbinary feels like trans with extra nuance, and people love to take out the nuance

Im nb and I’ve never heard anyone call a nb person an egg. Where does this come from, what does it mean? I’m guessing from OPs comment that it means non binary people are “eggs” that “hatch” into a trans man or trans woman?

Also hot take but egg culture in general is kind of wild. You’re allowed to form guesses about your friends but don’t turn it into A Thing. What happened to letting people come out in their own way on their own time?? It’s the trans version of “oh she’s just in a phase!!” How do people not get that

I say this as someone (who is nonbinary) and watched people in front of me debate my own identity. It scared and shamed me into not exploring my gender and expression, since I believed people would still see me as a wrong gender and as a “faker”. It still fucks with me.

An egg is someone who hasn’t realized they are trans

Oh okay, personally I consider being non binary as being trans

Yes! That is exactly why it is transphobic. Telling a trans person they haven’t realized they are trans (or trans enough) is transphobia.

Closeted trans person. Essentially this is the same as believing bisexuality is some sort of “transition” to homosexuality. They think enbies just aren’t all the way out yet

Ah ok I understand. So like an egg that hasn’t yet hatched. 🐣

YES exactly. It pisses me off and makes me so uncomfortable that people write it off as “no I’m just speculating!!” when in fact they are doing much more.
