What do butch and femme mean for gay men? Same vibe as the lesbian labels?

they’re more commonly used among lesbians, but you’re right that they have historically also been used by gay men. butch can be thought of as ‘embodying a queer masculinity’ and femme as ‘embodying a queer femininity.’

definitely a different vibe then lesbian i think but more in the literal senses (ie think of butch being used as an adjective to describe traditionally masculine men who may or may not even be queer). but i think it still embodies the lesbian aspect of being more than just appearance

they mean nothing. you cant be a butch or a femme if you are a man

Idk man I’m just watching older queer documentaries and the gay men use butch and femme labels so I wasn’t sure if people here still do

idk why people say this. it’s not historically accurate at all, and that is so easy to find out too. there was a time on tumblr ppl were so insistent abt this point and it felt like i was watching an instance of mass-psychosis
