yes and no. there’s a long history of straight women being into mlm ships and it is not for the same reason that straight men are into lesbians. some of y’all were not on tumblr or in fandom spaces in the early 2010s and it shows

some of the "straight women" are also gay and/or trans

I've said this before on a previous post about this kind of stuff but a lot of women like to consume mlm content (regardless of their sexuality) because they enjoy romance stories but it can be difficult to see women constantly sexualized

it’s still gross for straight women to be as obsessed with gay men as they are

No fr, they’re still just as weird as straight men obsessed with lesbians (straight or not)

like the creator of the boyfriends webtoon is a trans man who was harassed for being a straight woman fetishizing gay men... when he was literally writing about his own relationships and sexuality

obviously this is different if he’s literally a man 😒 i’m uncomfortable with actual WOMEN writing fetish-y content about gay men

no yeah im just saying theres def cases where ppl say stuff like this to hide that theyre being transphobic

and personally i have no issue with queer women writing about men's romancd bc it's not like we dont have shared experiences as gay people. mlm wlw solidarity

yeah you’re not wrong there, having ppl like that in these types of conversations is so aggravating

yeah, the fact that it’s two men means there isn’t an inherent gendered hierarchy that gets implied the moment one is introduced as a man and the other as a woman. it means their actions aren’t constantly placed within that implied dynamic

obviously some misuse the medium, but it’s so gross to me when people dismiss individuals off-hand as “fetishists” without bothering to find out why they read that content.

mhm for that reason I'm not bothered by women's interest in yaoi unless they ARE being fetishy about it and disrespecting real queer men

i grew up friends with women of every sexuality under the sun and yapping about gay media with them ❤️❤️❤️ het romance frequently introduces gender dynamics and inbuilt misogyny that make it frustrating and sometimes outright creepy to read or watch, and it's usually completely absent in mlm. yuri doesn't have as much of an audience from straight women for obvious reasons but ofc queer women love it too, there just isnt anywhere near as much out there

ive noticed ppl who like certain tropes (friends to lovers, enemies to lovers) tend to gravitate to queer media in general, because heteronormative gender dynamics completely fuck with the ability to build up tension in the relationship. like ive never seen something straight labeled as "enemies to lovers" that didnt have the man as some abusive asshole and/or straight up misogynistic, like of course some women don't want to read that shit.

and i know straight women who like both mlm and wlw for this exact reason!! straight romance is written with a lot of very normalized misogyny that is usually either absent or addressed in queer romance, since it's kind of hard to write about gay people without either addressing homophobia (and consequently the broader system of patriarchy), or the conscious choice to write bigotry out of the story.
