Nope, they’re still gay. Being a bad person doesn’t make you not gay, they’re two separate things. Gay people are not a monolith and sometimes gay people fuck up. It’s important we acknowledge that so we can hold ourselves accountable as a community.

I would certainly think that being a fascist and voting to take other minority groups’ human rights away is more than a ‘mistake’. This is why intersectionality is important to understand.

I didn’t mean to imply it wasn’t serious. I just think it’s important not to conflate being gay with being a good person. Part of intersectionality is calling out the bigotry in your own community, and that means acknowledging your own community is not perfect.

Correct, being gay doesn’t automatically mean you’re a good person. As I pointed out with my original comment. It’s also important to call out bigotry in your own community, like you said. Which I also did in my original comment. Not sure where the confusion lies.

My point is: I disagree with your original comment because I think even jokingly saying morally reprehensible gay people should have their “gay card revoked” implies queerness is tied to how good a person you are. And I think it’s important to make it clear queerness is an intrinsic trait that you can’t fail or succeed at. There is no confusion. I just disagree with you. But I see where you’re coming from, we can just agree to disagree and both say fuck gay republicans.
