for the record my grandfather is kind of a shitty person and I don't really like him, but there is no good reason that this man is well into his 80s and still working like he can barely fucking walk, wdym he's working to live

Yes absolutely, but also from most of the old people I’ve talked to, there’s a big group who are retired, or could retire, but rely on a job as a place to be around people and feel useful.

Yess, my work bestie was a grandma who worked for socializing and she is so sweet and lovely and knows everyone, I love her. As long as she's happy

Working part time to be social is different (and better) than doing it to live though. Old people who WANTING to work is great
