me too :( my state is so pretty and quiet and I know I’d miss it so much if I moved somewhere else. I just wish the politics were different and that our politicians actually cared about us

i miss wv a lot but being able to access trans healthcare (esp surgeons) + queer friendly fertility medicine in the area where i live now has completely changed my life tbh

i definitely wish wv was better in that regard as well as our terrible politicians. tbh even general healthcare is hard to get here. it’s like one hospital per 50 miles and each one doesn’t offer certain services. like there’s not even a maternity ward in my whole county anymore (they got rid of the one i was born in)

yeah totally. my wife has a neurological condition and the healthcare we have received since moving has been miles better, she was on a waitlist for 18+ months to get an MRI in wv and she got one within five weeks here. the disparities are insane. especially as queer people planning to build a family, i couldn’t imagine willingly sending children to school in wv, there has been such a sharp decline even since i graduated. i really hope it gets better soon but i struggle to see that happening.

100%! my dad also had a neurological condition and we’re gonna have to start looking out of state bc even after a decade, they can’t figure out what’s causing it. thankfully i graduated in ‘23 just before things REALLY started getting bad. they’re paying families to keep their kids homeschooled or online now, whether the parents can actually teach them or not. my mom’s a teacher so i get to see it all second hand from her

oh ik. the hope scholarship is fucking crazy bc there are basically no restrictions (there are a significant # of people who use it to send their children to private schools out-of-state, wv education dollars literally leaving our economy), but unfortunately i also know that it’s the only thing letting my MIL send my brother to a local private school that’s *actually* educating students.

he’d been kicked out of a different private school and the local public 1) wouldn’t accommodate his disability and 2) completely stopped instructing science/social studies bc the math/reading scores were too low. it’s the worst catch-22. i hope ur dad is able to get the care he needs soon! whether that’s in or out of state. 🤞

it’s also crazy that the healthcare is so bad when it’s basically one of the only industries propping up the state. i don’t understand.

yep, fully just eliminated the subjects. ADA/504/IDEA never really meant shit in wv schools but especially with recent cuts if your kid doesn’t have “severe” enough disabilities and/or easily accommodated ones then you’re pretty much shit out of luck. it sucks!

they didn’t say they didn’t have rights, they said they wanted to make sure those rights are secure & considering the amount of red states that have proposed & passed many anti-lgbtq+ laws, they’re not wrong for feeling vulnerable
