Genuinely asking (and I might be stepping into asshole territory here but whatever): are there any actual examples of this? Cause this is the first time that I’ve heard of this happening
Feel like you guys need the aware of this too

SpongeBob. I don’t think anyone was really MAD about that more so as weirdos who cared too much anyway got even weirder

And I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, I’ve just never seen or experienced this personally and I wanted some more input

Alastair from Hazbin Hotel pops to mind, it’s not as bad as it used to be but it’s still not good

I've had it happen in real life before, idk how common it is in online spaces but I've definitely experienced it. also I know at the end of the day people can head cannon fictional characters however they want, but I've never witnessed a fandom actually respect an asexual or aromantic characters identity, like they immediately start making porn of them or romantic fanfics. like with gay characters people usually keep them gay in their fanfics and idk it feels very targeted sometimes

Also also (and correct me if I’m wrong) but can’t you be gay and asexual? I thought that asexuality was seperate from sexual orientation? (Like on the sense that you can be gay and asexual or straight and asexual, or gay and trans or straight and trans etc.)

You can. But that’s not common in media.

He’s ace, not necessarily aro (iirc, I don’t really follow the show) But boy, could the fandom not handle that very well at first

i mean if you really wanna get specific, u can be homoromantic and asexual or heteroromantic and asexual - who are you romantically attracted to vs sexually attracted

I mean, I don’t think the hazbin fandom could handle anything well

I think this says a good bit about how these characters are written. In adult media with explicit asexual characters and representation, they’re often written as highly objectifiable on purpose, as if being an overly sexual character that’s actually asexual and not a potential partner for someone is some gotcha or a replacement for being deep and intentional with their story
