Mind you previous patriotism was idolizing people who committed genocides and enslaved human beings. Being “patriotic” to a country that has never had a good era is what reeks of being right wing

Basically Nazi-esque patriotism, usually leading to a hyper aggressive foreign policy and feelings towards immigrants
