sorry but would you mind expanding on that? my white ass is pretty uneducated in stuff like that in regards to being trans (besides “passing” being rooted in whiteness)

It's really common in indigenous cultures for people to grow their hair longer regardless of gender. In some cultures getting a hair cut is a sign of grief or failure.
