a “yes” vote is an admission that you are consciously willing to be an active participant in state violence this is one of those “if you were alive during the nazi regime, what would you have done about it” questions. ask yourself if you would be proud to have submitted a Jewish neighbor to the gas chambers based on them harboring a regressive attitude towards a given oppressed group and an immigration status of questionable legality
being tortured—and having your survival threatened and your future destroyed, being torn away from your loved ones & traumatized—doesn’t make anyone a better person than they were. that’s not how that works. people are capable of changing for the better, but they only grow when they aren’t stuck in hypervigilant survival mode bigotry is often learned. you don’t just slaughter (or kidnap & starve & rape) people because they had been brainwashed, you carefully endeavor to show them the truth
and in case you didn’t consider this part, we’re talking “questionable legality” in a context where what’s legal is being determined by nazis. so when you get hung up on the legality part, you’re cosigning the nazis’ system of law connect the dots: to begin with, is your sense of right and wrong dependent on the Trump regime’s opinion of what should-and-shouldn’t be legal? does experiencing homophobia make you happy to cosign the Trump regime’s state-sanctioned nationalist violence?
it’s clear that, intentionally or not, you have been absolutely Guzzling aggressive right-wing propaganda. your talking points are ripped from a Fox News script—painting a thin veneer of pro-gay rhetoric over it doesn’t do enough to cover that up. your way of thinking, the things you’re implying, your style of debating the subject and the justifications you’re trying to push are all extremely alarming. please get help
wouldn’t be surprised, but what’s really nightmarish beyond that is that not only have 17 people voted “yes”, but also, that had been the majority answer for like half an hour. the ratio only started to shift once people started leaving replies expressing disgust with people who voted “yes”
Like calling hate speech just an opinion is how we platform nazis and how we get to the point of people in power who throw brown people in concentration camps, because their “opinion” of hate holds power Technically it is an opinion, but please do not treat hate speech as any other opinion. We’re not disagreeing on favorite flavors of ice cream here
ok but OP doesn’t specify how exactly the person is being homophobic. just that they are. yes you should face consequences if you’re trying to hate crime someone or inciting violence. merely holding the belief that homosexuality is wrong is not a valid reason for reporting someone undocumented to ICE.
when they came for the immigrants, i said nothing because some of them were homophobic when they came for the muslims, i said nothing because some of them were homophobic when they came for the black community, i said nothing because some of them were homophobic when they came for the disabled, i said nothing because some of them were homophobic and when they came for me, nobody came to my aid, both because there weren’t enough left AND i was enough of an asshole that they thought i deserved it
