@trans: is it a bad idea to put "preferred: [name], legally: [deadname]" on a resume? i dont wanna have to use my deadname but idk if adding my preferred name will cause issues. for context i'm looking for work as an EMT & i'm in a deep blue state

a resume isn’t a legal document. it’s the same as if you were using a nickname just if you get hired clarify your legal name (which your i9 should do anyway) so that all legal docs can be under the correct name

do not feel pressured to put your legal name on a resume! the only time an employer should need your legal name is if they’re doing a background check or processing your paperwork after you get hired.

you don’t have to put your real name on a resumé at all, but if there is an item about consenting to a background check you may want to write it into that portion only (unless you’ve done crimes lol)

oh, good to know. so like lets say my legal name is janet smith and my chosen name is brad smith, if i format it like J. "Brad" Smith does that seem good? that way it's clear that it's a nickname?
