we need to bring back zines fr… i’m writing about abortion rights rn and there’s nowhere more fitting than in a zine, i think. we need to make talking about queer rights a physical thing again, not just limited to the internet

physical print zines never stopped being popular in radical leftist & punk circles, I think the problem is just that a lot of people don’t have access to the kinds of spaces / events where zines would usually be disseminated, or they aren’t part of those subcultures

i once did a project where i spent a lot of time looking at riot grrrl zine archives + queercore zine archives and it makes me sooooo sad how little ppl utilize zines as a way to spread information!!! not to mention its a great way to “spread” trends in a more organic way instead of through the manufactured, artificial, algorithmic way that happens nowadays :-(

I’m in the southeast and zines are big down here too. they’re distributed at queer/leftist events and stuff but also at the library and local bookstores and coffee shops

right? it’s such a good way to spread information and foster community, and it seems like we really need it, now more than ever

not to mention it’s a wonderful creative outlet, cheap to do, EASY!!! and accessible to do, and brings back the DIY ethos of alternative culture that’s been desperately missing from the contemporary scene </3 BRING BACK ZINE CULTURE!

at first I was like “wdym ‘bring back’, I know tons of people with personal zine libraries” but then I remembered that not everywhere is a major city in the northwest with mutual aid gatherings in the park and an anarchist bookfair. I just live in maximum zine territory
