its lowkey opened the floodgates to more straight women fetishizing gay men and inserting themselves into gay spaces while the fandom acts weird and parasocial towards the actors in the cast but then again thats the case for all gay media

Omg when I say I don’t find the characters attractive enough or I’m not interested in the plot enough to get into it people lose their fucking minds. God forbid I have a preference 💀

I think it’s a great show but I understand what y’all are saying in the comments, I think that’s more to do with its fan base tho than the show itself

I’m the same way, I purposely avoid the show just because of the hype. I’ll read the books first and then decide

Is there any actual plot because it just seems like porn?

What’s frustrating is that so many gays on social media predicted this. A gay guy was even kicked out of a bar that was hosting a heated rivalry watch bc he was a man despite him being gay.

whats crazy is that these same women say that gay men arent allowed to have opinions on it as if the media isnt about them and a lot of the times gay media isnt even made for gay men but about gay men for straight womens consumption

Yes. The porn is to just round people in at first, plot really starts kicking off in the 2nd half of the season. I’ve watched it all a few times now and still find myself bawling through entire episodes (5 and 6)

Honestly the moment I was told about the show, I already knew something was going to go wrong. Like don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love that we have queer representation and especially when it was written and directed by queer people and especially when purity culture and conservatism is rising. I think the show, alone, is beautiful while also having flaw, as with everything in the world. But what I raise issue with are women just fetishizing it all and having no respect for the actual story

Especially when one could be so emboldened as to tell the people being represented in the piece of media that that very piece of media “is not for them”

I listened to the some of the books after watching the show and I think the show is less fetishizing than the books tbh. The book was written by a woman who I have seen some people say she’s a bi woman (but personally I have not found something from the author stating her sexuality), and honestly the books made me so uncomfortable. Like the way this woman describes her characters, the bottom is super feminine in the bedroom and there were multiple points where the bottom is described as feminine

Like how the sex was described in the book it felt heteronormative. Also the characters are very flat in the book and I think having a gay man’s perspective while making the show caused the characters to be more like people and less like sex objects.
