like ppl who are amab seem boxed in so much more in terms of clothing and general self-expression than afab ppl (in the white liberal middle class background i come from) but i'd love to hear other ppls experience/takes on it cause obviously afab ppl are pushed into boxes as well but the punishment for not fitting gender roles seems less violent and more dismissive. like trans women are a threat but trans men are just confused lil girls making a big deal out of nothing
Thank u for sharing ur experience!! I’m genderfluid and amab and i agree with your perspective. I think ppl who live and die by patriarchal values literally are unable to comprehend someone who is amab wanting to not be masculine all the time; they see it as backwards and perverted, like there’s something wrong with (or even threatening about) a guy with pretty lashes and eyeliner. Like dawg there are literal pedos in the government, let me wear my cute grandma sweaters in peace
exactly!! i think trans people in general force a reckoning with how much gender/expression is an active choice (and how attraction isn't necessarily controllable) which is uncomfortable and scary to a lot of people because they've defined themselves around behaviors and desires they want to believe is baked in but it isn't in the way they think it is- people are incredibly invested in the rigidity of the gender binary and sexuality bc they've made sacrifices their whole lives to fit inside it
Absolutely! It’s sad that so many people really have given up a lot to maintain the rigidity of patriarchal gender/sex values, and I wonder how many wonderful people we’ve missed out on because of that. I like to think that the hatred will eventually give way to a more understanding and kind world :)
