makes me sad especially bc like, weight gain and hair loss are natural occurrences for a ton of people in a lot of different situations anyway—not starting T isn’t a guarantee that you won’t experience those things, so I’d hate for that concern to prevent someone from starting HRT if they otherwise want to
I really do feel like it’s a side-effect of how masculinity is often portrayed as an inherently evil thing by much of the queer community. While I can somewhat see how we got here, I’m a binary trans man and the amount of times i’ve been either treated like an invader to queer spaces or been basically told “well you’re not a real man so you don’t count teehee” to my face is staggering. This isn’t even just an online thing, this happened to me irl. It’s a problem we really need to address tbh.
+ if I can get real personal with it: I’ve always been on the larger side, and my hair was starting to thin due to chronic illness. starting HRT helped me feel a lot more comfortable in my own skin incidentally, I’ve lost a lot of weight on T (which I feel neutral about) and my insurance was down to cover finasteride as part of transition healthcare for my hair health!
