if you’re vehemently opposed to the genocide against Palestinians (as you should be) but you still think of US military personnel as largely neutral actors, you urgently need to do some reflecting on the inconsistency of your political principles

tbh i could never understand why people were so supportive of the military around wartime. y’all are proud of people dying in wars where we didn’t need to get involved in? i’m not saying there isn’t bravery to sacrificing your life, but there is no reason people need to die for this.

And then at the same time, it’s also important to remember that the US military is VERY predatory in its recruitment tactics, and preys on the desperation of poor people

Blame hamas and those terrorists of using human shield and killing their own so they can continue oppressing women and stone any LGBTQ people. How are any of you supporting the people who kill people like us. They are ALREADY doing what you unreasonably fear our government will do.

I think this one’s hard because I know people that do not support the military but joined for pressing financial reasons and I don’t think those individuals are morally wrong for that.

There is no bravery in sacrificing your life for the USA. Only monumental stupidity

it was a broad statement to address anyone, but i really do believe that war as a whole is a completely avoidable issue. not to mention that the whole connotation of “fighting for our freedom” is so out of date because the country is purposely putting itself under attack. no one is trying to take away our freedom if we don’t stick our nose in places it shouldn’t be.

If I needed money & became a hitman (or an accomplice for one) that would be fucked up, right?

“It’s ok to kill or help kill people in other countries if you need money” is peak American exceptionalism. You do not see people from other places as equals to yourself

I just think it’s a privileged position many people who say this are coming from. If you have 5 siblings, need to work full time to support yourself, and have no money for college, the military can solve a lot of your problems unfortunately.

And I understand your metaphor about how even if you aren’t killing people yourself you’re contributing to the military industrial complex, but the military does do a LOT of different things and while this definitely doesn’t absolve them, I think it’s worth acknowledging in this discussion they also do a lot of good. More before USAID died, but I digress.

nope. I live in poverty and am stuck surviving off of the food bank. my degree is useless because I am too physically disabled to hold a job. I was denied state benefits despite extensive documentation of my illnesses. do not fucking play the “you just can’t imagine what desperation is like” card here

If I was hitman who was single mom with 5 kids who donated to charity would that make it ok for me to kill people

Learn a trade or something if college isn’t the answer for you or go into debt if it is I literally do not care what the reasoning is

idk about you but contributing to an active problem would feel morally wrong for me. yes, the military does a lot of different things, but the intention behind its creation is to provoke fear and violence. it’s unfortunate that the job market is shit, but we shouldn’t be encouraging people to be a part of that. the military capitalizes on people who don’t have a direction because they’re the easiest to manipulate. that’s not a good thing.

Idk about you but I’d rather be homeless and starving than live comfortably because I shot a bunch of brown people for oil.

Hamas hoarding aid materials and preventing Palestinians to access them is literally them killing Palestinians. Thank god hamas is getting destroyed so they will stop killing gay people unless you support that then keep defending them

When we put the dudes who blew up Minab Middle school on trial: “I have 5 siblings, dont you think its a bit privileged to condemn me?”

When USAID was defunded a bunch of liberal polisci professors came out and said “but this is a soft power tool to spread US influence!” Like we all knew that but youre not supposed to say the quiet part out loud

Read this. The US military does unimaginable harm around the world, even when theyre not “in combat” (not sure if bombing a bunch of refugees and hospitals counts as combat but thats not the point)

You’re the same people that would let Taiwan crumble because you are so anti American and retaliating against China would be impossible when their military starts hiding in hospitals. You are why evil prevails in the world

Evil? Bro the US is helping murder men, women and children in a giant death camp called “Gaza” at this moment. The US recently did a planned famine of Yemen. 400K starved. The US just blew up boats of innocent fishermen in Columbia and Venezuela.

you really saw my post and said “I’m not logically inconsistent, I’m consistently in favor of murderous colonization as long as the victims are brown people in the Middle East!” we get it, you’re even worse than the people I was expressing frustration with. I have no interest in trying to reason with someone whose worldview is based in racist propaganda

I think it dates back to Vietnam War where lots of people who fought in the war faced backlash and disrespectful behavior because the war was deeply unpopular. Then it led to this idea of “support our troops “ and separating that support from supporting the war. The idea is that they are following orders and the blame belongs to the government for approving these wars in the first place. That’s why. Of course, as we know from the holocaust that following orders is not a get out of jail free card
