I might get some hate from this but I’m gonna speak my truth. One of the most annoying types of people in the queer community are the one’s who make not liking/caring about sports a massive performance. Like “go sportsball” is genuinely so cringe.

idk i feel justified in disregarding sports as silly when they’ve made the past decade about excluding trans people

No bc sports are so fun to watch when you’re invested and have a team to root for. Take one “go sportsball” person to a baseball game and watch them change their tune (or not, some people are just sincerely allergic to fun)

Nah I’ve genuinely met so many queers who do the whole song and dance like irl. Like I completely get not being into sports or not being your thing but it gets to a level where it is so fucking performative and those ppl do exist. Just because you may not have personally experienced it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.

Seriously! Like it’s okay to be invested in something and care about something even if it’s not gonna have that many like “big time effects” on one’s personal life and status.

Please don’t do that, they hate it. 9/10 times they agree, it’s because they like you and want to spend time with you.

I’m ngl my dad took me to a baseball game and I thought I was gonna hate it but ended up having a blast. So like I’m talking from experience.

I get that, but as someone who doesn’t care for sports, even queer people that I’ve met act surprised that there are people who don’t watch sports. It might be a geographic thing, I hadn’t really thought about that. My university is pretty sportsy and I’m from a deep red state so that could be why

I mean good for you, seriously that’s great and I’m glad you enjoy it, but that’s not at all universal. Like I’ve been to a dozen major league, a handful of minor league, and a dozen college baseball games and I still hate it, and my brother is the same but also with soccer.

You’re allowed to feel however you personally feel but if you’re gonna be over the top performative and make it all about you then yeah you’re annoying af. Also I mean this respectfully trans people who play sports aren’t going on a crusade that actually the sport they want to be apart of is silly because they got excluded. It’s absolutely fair to call out sports league leadership for exclusion but using it to act like sports is inherently silly is disingenuous.

why are you putting words in my mouth and just making weird bigoted assumptions about LGBT people? i never said anything about being “over the top performative and [making] it all about [myself]”

I said the “over the top performative” stuff because that’s literally what this post is about and calling out the ppl who make it their goal to ensure that ppl know they don’t like sports. That’s literally what this post is about and instead you’re the one who is trying to make it about something else. I don’t care if you don’t like sports that is absolutely fine. But it gets so annoying when you can’t actually engage in it without another person making it their goal to make it about them.

Okay so what you’re not gonna do is make this into “you like sports because you want to be one of the good one’s.” We’re not gonna play that game. You’re allowed to not like sports that’s fine but when you try to ruin it for others that’s not cool. If it doesn’t apply then let it fly. That simple.

disregarding sports as “silly” because conservatives have made them a culture war issue on trans inclusion is weird. i’m not disregarding bathrooms because my right to use them has been politicized. it also cedes ground to conservatives, sports are for *everyone.*

you don’t have to be a sports fan to recognize the role that they play in our culture and the importance of queer representation within them—and that the last decade has represented a backslide for trans rights in *all* areas. the NBA pulled their all-star game from NC in 2017 due to backlash bc of an anti-trans bathroom bill. the cwhl had a trans woman who played in a professional women’s hockey league in 2016-2019. it was *such* a big deal when jason collins came out while playing in the NBA.
