unpopular opinion: media that has and engages with dark/unpleasant/immoral themes is necessary to developing critical thought. learning should make you uncomfortable. not saying it’s all you should consume, but it should be a portion of it.

Is this in reference to something in specific? 😭 pretty much every rape or CSA or incest story has always made me violently uncomfortable, but moreso from Knowing Too Much than being Unaware

it was about a twitter thread lmao but it applies generally. l guess my point more is that it’s good to be uncomfortable when engaging with those topics but it’s important that people don’t immediately write off media that contains it. like yes, it is a bad thing, that’s the point, and the way you develop media literacy is engaging with those topics. i’m not saying you absolutely have to read those things esp if you have trauma surrounding it but grown people on twitter that learn media literacy
