pop feminism has gone too far because people be saying shit like “if a man doesn’t like your pussy then call him out for being gay” or “if a man says he prefers having a dick since he thinks pussies are ugly, then he’s probably gay.” cishets are weird…

I don't think they're trying to be feminist, I think they're trying to be mean

in the comments the OP apologized for having a misinformed take so they admitted themself that they were being fr and not mean. I’m also not calling out OP but rather a pattern of behavior and speech from a lot of cishets

also, claiming that someone is spouting misogynist shit bc they’re gay takes away from the actual issue. it doesn’t matter whether they’re even gay because it’s misogynistic either way. call me “too woke,”but even if it’s just to “be mean,” it both detracts from the blatant misogyny and buys into the idea that gay is an insult.

I don't disagree for a second that this whole exchange of theirs was misogynistic and homophobic etc., my point was solely that someone trying to insult someone else who said something stupid was probably not in any way attempting to be feminist and was just trying to get off the harshest insult they could. Clearly I agree that gay shouldn't be an insult

true, but many people try to justify it by calling it “punching up” or saying “who set up that system” when people point out their homophobia or misogyny. I agree that being mean isnt where the feminism comes from: it’s when people use feminist language to justify bigoted behavior.

straight women justify weaponizing homophobia towards misogynists by pointing to how men have privilege over women while ignoring their own privilege over gay men

i mean i agree with what you're saying but i really think the average person calling a straight guy a homo or whatever would not identify themselves as a feminist. if they do, by all means, shame them. but otherwise it's just homophobia which is not exactly uncommon

definitely true irl but there’s been a severe trend of it online (at least on YY) and other people eat it up and defend it by saying it’s the patriarchy making them be homophobic to misogynists. idk it’s alarming regardless

also I’m talking abt this specific thing where people weaponize homophobia against misogynists or even just straight men they don’t like, in cases of flat-out homophobia it’s just bigotry yeah
