discussing the intersectionality of your queer & religious identities is not evangelization, it’s just talking about YOUR identity. harassing others by saying they’re “shoving it in your face” is disgusting behavior. religious queers deserve a place here.

Religion and Queerness can absolutely exist at the same time, within the same person. And there are countless religions and ways to be queer that i don’t think it should be assumed that just because someone is religious it means they hate queer people. There are definitely people who are religious and hate queer people, and those who use religion for hate, but that isn’t everyone

also people hear “religious” and immediately assume Christian or that they think being queer is a sin despite being queer themselves. which is such weird behavior and harkens to when bigots call all us “gay” regardless of identity. it destroys all nuance and shuts down discussion. we’re better than that.

blocked the OP of the post that inspired this one and turns out #1 is gone. who would’ve guessed that the person being weird abt another’s identity wouldn’t see a problem with the behavior lmao

Amazing how you’ve constructed a post entirely of strawmen, I’m impressed it didn’t blow over in the wind.

happy for you that you haven’t seen it! however I’ve seen people say much worse shit to religious queers. someone literally said “religious queers are a disgrace to our community” so yeah. it’s not imagine hostility.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen what you’re talking about, but aside from that specific statement I don’t think the hostility is what you claim it is here.

yeah, and I am firmly against proselytizing and advertising religion to others. but oftentimes the evangelists here are cishet Christian bigots (NOT religious queers), and the evangelizers always get a downvoted and reported. I'm a former Christian with a very nuanced view of my own religion, and that DOES interact with my queerness in significant ways. I love seeing discussion since it shows I'm not alone in my experience. that's a big part of pride and should be celebrated, not condemned.

My religion is very niche and is a culmination of things I’ve learned, things I’ve always believed, and my own experiences, and it’s always open to change and grow as I do as well. For me my religion does not affect my queerness, I’ll always be queer no matter what. I don’t think it’s ok for people to come into spaces made for queer people to try and change or convert them, but I do think it’s ok for religious queers to talk about their religion in queer spaces.

I don’t mean to continue beef, but #1 made another post and said this. You didn’t make a response to their comment here, but (asking out of curiosity) do you know what that was about

don’t worry there isn’t beef (unless it’s one-sided, which it might be lol). I’m glad they at least admitted they weren’t sure about it since it makes them look less silly 😭

oh but I blocked them on their other post that inspired this one after saying “you’re discussing in bad faith so we’re done here” or smth, maybe that’s why. idk why they care so much tho 😭
