Care to out your U? I’m asking as a university based civil rights investigator in Illinois. If you’re in my state, report that to your campus civil rights office. Even if not a violation of state or federal non-discrimination law, that sort of language possibly violates code of conduct policy.

I get that. But don’t assume that NO ONE cares. I have met plenty of civil rights focused individuals from across the country, red and blue states alike. It can’t hurt to let that person / department know. Even if there isn’t anything they can do directly about that faculty member, they should have options for supporting you.

Say in the report that your professor’s conduct is making you consider dropping the class or withdrawing from the school as a whole because it makes you feel unwelcomed or unsafe 😁 it’s shocking how much they’ll suddenly care when faced with the threat of not receiving more tuition dollars

I really hate that a such cynical thought it right…but it is. Universities are not profit making centers, but the more a university brings in tuition-wise, the bigger it can be. With enrollments dropping (Google “enrollment cliff”), universities are incentivized to keep every student they can. Your university may not jump at one unhappy student, but if there were 3-4 of you? Yeah, that might start to get attention.
