I’m not fully a man, just transitioning my sex to male due to dysphoria. I don’t relate to a straight view of sexuality, and would feel too restrained by a straight woman viewing me as a straight man.

As a trans man that honestly feels awful to hear someone say. OP stated they’re not fully a man so I’m not taking issue with their identity at all, but a trans MAN (i.e., fully a man) can’t be a lesbian. Not trying to be overly sensitive but knowing that so many people seem to view people like me as inherently less of men than other men sucks.

I think it’s a weird grey zone where it’s less, yes man can be lesbians because trans men can be lesbians, and more of “trans men are men, but a few trans men identify as lesbians and I’m not going to fight them because I don’t know the extent of why they identify that way”

Okay, a couple things. 1) CAN is a different word than ARE. Trans men CAN be lesbians, but ARE NOT inherently. 2) As a take, that’s… ahistoric. 3) It’s not that you are less of a man. It’s that some trans men are attracted to women, and not in a straight way. Not all trans men are binary men, not all lesbians are only attracted to binary women. Now can we please put this stupid ass discourse to rest…

1. Yes, it’s the “can” that feels bad. Cis men can’t be lesbians. So if trans men can, there is something inherently different about their manhood that allows for that. 2. Being dysphoric that I “could” be a lesbian if I chose to identify that way isn’t connected to history. And historical doesn’t equal unequivocally true or immune to criticism

3. Like I said, I’m not taking issue with people like OP who aren’t binary men. But I can conclude from the statement “trans men can be lesbians” that if someone like me were to say that I was a lesbian, lots of people would just accept me including myself in a label for women and woman-adjacent people. That wouldn’t be the case for a cis man. I’m just saying that that feels pretty awful.

Well, if it makes you feel any better you can’t choose your sexuality. You can’t choose to be lesbian any more than someone can choose to be straight. What you can choose is how you describe your sexuality, and for some trans men, “lesbian” is their preferred descriptor.

And more to the point… this isn’t really about you, sorry. Some trans men are lesbians. You aren’t; you would feel dysphoric using that descriptor. That’s valid too, no one is saying that it isn’t. But your experience doesn’t dictate how other trans men have to identify.

Also, quick note, this isn’t a critique of you in any way I just want to put it out there: there is a such thing as a non-binary man and a non-binary woman, some trans men are also nonbinary and are still trans men, and some people are transmasc but not trans men.
