Yes but let’s also not forget that it is a fact that cis people are more likely to be transphobic and bigoted to trans people and trans people have every right to be weary of them!
Just your friendly reminder that cis men, cis women, trans men, trans women, etc etc. aren’t a monolith and that good and bad individuals exist in all of these groups!

Hey so if you’re weary of every single cis person bc you assume they’ll be transphobic bc you experienced it from a cis person before that’s actually called group attribution error and also should perhaps make sure your therapist is aware of that to help you work through it. Over generalizations hurt yourself by forcing isolation and that’s not fun for anyone! Ok tootles love you bye

You should learn what systemic oppression is before saying ignorant shit like this lmfao. Hate to break it to you but the majority of people who can think for themselves are transphobic, especially where I live. Literally most transphobic people I’ve met are cis, even in the lgbtq+ community. Please get woke.

Okay, what do you want me to do with that information exactly? I’m not saying that post is wrong, I’m just expressing something that I feel is relevant to this conversation

This post isn’t relevant to the conversation of the original post, is what I’m saying. I’m not even disagreeing with you, I just thought you might like to know that there’s additional context to the post you’re responding to.

??? How am I supposed to know this post is even part of a conversation?? It’s not quoting anything or making any specific reference to something else. This is a public forum

When you repost a post, you are engaging with the original post. And the conversation of that original post.

“The majority are transphobic” is true, but “cis people suck, let’s generally avoid them” doesn’t follow from that. That’s what oop and 1 are both saying. Approach everyone with an open mind, figure out whether they’re a shitty person, and then go from there. “Woke” means recognizing oppression, not assuming things about people you don’t know.

I mean i guess bro ?? But I never said cis people suck, way to strawman my argument

would you mind saying what your argument is then? It kinda sounded like you were disagreeing with oop

Cis people are not inherently evil, and them being cis is not a negative quality, however they tend to be transphobic and a huge fraction of them are transphobic and participate in the systemic oppression of trans people. Trans people therefore have the right to not be comfortable with just about any cis person (at least until they know that they’re an ally)

I think we’re all in agreement then, I wasn’t saying you should instantly be comfortable with everyone, just to try take that time to figure out if they’re an ally when possible. Lots of people do make sweeping generalizations like “cis people suck” which just drives the wedge further

They hate you for this post but ur right Trans people have every right to be a bit on guard around cis people at first bc the people oppressed us ARE CIS PEOPLE. People taking offense to this are just fragile cis people who don’t want to come to terms with the fact they might be part of an oppressive class

100% this. And apply this framework to racism in the community too!!! Bigotry is intersectional, and our understanding of it and method of combating it MUST be intersectional too!

I think it’s ok to be weary of people i think it’s an important part of self preservation and awareness. I’m weary of any flame because I’ve been burned and I’ve seen the destruction a careless flame can cause. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy a fire tho. I assume people where I live will be homophobic and then I am glad to be proven wrong by the few.

See i think the thing is oppression is often very easy to identify the issue is that no one wants to admit when they are the oppressor or when they fit in with the oppressor. It’s easy to acknowledge the issue but it’s hard to admit when you’re part of the people who makes it an issue your first reaction is defend your innocence

Like when I was a sophomore, we read how to be an anti-racist one big Takeaway from that was when you call someone racist they immediately get defensive not because you think they are racist but because they feel like you don’t like them. Instead of talking the opportunity to self reflect see what you said or did and how it could be taken in a racist way, they just feel like you think they’re dumb or a bad person and all that.

So my message to cis people as a cis person when someone calls out cis people or you personally don’t defend yourself, take the time to see it from their perspective, take the time to try to be better reflect on what you said or did and why it was seen that way.

Ur good lol And yeah you mention to a group of cis people that SOME of them might have unaddressed transphobia and they all loose their fucking minds. Watch how fast so called allies get defensive. Especially if it’s a trans woman saying that a cis person has unaddressed transphobia
