As someone that left organized religion, I don’t understand why people hold it against celebrities for being involved with Scientology. It’s a cult. They obviously believe it’s just misunderstood, it’s how they have been conditioned. They’re victims, imo.

if they were raised in it, yeah. if as fully formed adults they thought it was a good idea then I don't really have any sympathy.

Cults pray on your vulnerabilities. They’re good at what they do, and it’s a lot easier than you think for “fully formed adults” to fall into one

They can be held accountable, and still be victims. Those are not mutually exclusive.

It’s how adults end up in abusive relationships too. Just because someone is a “fully formed adult” doesn’t mean they are unable to become victimized

People can be born or indoctrinated into cults and religions. I didn’t choose to be raised catholic for example.

That is the implication when you comment “accountability?” Under a post about victims of cults

I have sympathy if someone ends up in an abusive relationship because 99% of the time there's no way they could have known that was going to happen going into it. If someone got into a relationship with Ted Bundy and it turned out to be abusive, I would be much less sympathetic. A single google search for Scientology would bring up hundreds of articles about it being an abusive scam. They could have done that and didn't.

Like 4 said cults prey on insecurities and vulnerable people. Your approach of not showing sympathy or empathy is what keeps people in cults, because they feel like nobody cares about them and nobody will help them when they need it

no. they said they're confused why anybody would hold it against them; accountability. you're reaching

nothing about the *single word* comment of "accountability" i said would even possibly imply that they couldn't be victims. don't be ridiculous

also victim status is irrelevant. we hold it against child abusers regardless of if they were abused as children. it doesn't change anything - only possibly adds to the explanation

Somebodies tilted for being called out. They even brought out the pictures

I'm also sympathetic to people in other cults because if it's not well known, there's no way you could have done your research. But Scientology is completely and entirely famous for being an abusive scam.

And again this is why you are part of the problem and not the solution. You don’t listen, all you do and have done is try to excuse your shitty mentality

Let me try to break it down. People who are “fully formed adults” tend to have clouded judgement when they’re in bad situations. “someone from Scientology was nice to me. Church can be that bad.” Then they join and by the time things get bad it’s too late, they engrained and getting out is hard

I mean yeah, you got me, I'm not at all sympathetic to someone who would start giving thousands of dollars to an organization without googling it

you're just wrong. pictures and explanations of why that is don't make me "tilted"

do you not hold it against child abusers who were abused as children too or?

This comparison doesn’t work. A child abuser is actively abusing a child with awareness that what they are doing is harmful. If someone’s a member of Scientology is does not mean they are aware that the church hurts others. You are highly defensive for someone who isn’t just a lil pissy
