What is the point of arguing bisexual or masc lesbian discourse on here obv it isnt gonna be productive. Its just division for divisions sake. Im denying the discussions dont matter but this place is not conducive to any sort of good discussion

There’s an old German saying. If there are 9 people at a table, and 1 n@zi sits down and no one protests, there are 10 n@zis at the table.

The point is that biphobia and transphobia must be challenged, must not and cannot be tolerated. The point of online debate is not to change minds, but to set boundaries

Im not saying it shouldnt be resisted but that this possibly the worse place to have that dialogue

Dialogue isn’t the point. Dialogue would be COUNTER to the point. The resistance IS the point.

Im also saying its a bad place to do it because it is not materially helping anyone.

I agree. But again. The resistance is the point. There is no expectation of material support.

But the thing is it just fuels the conversation to the point where its taking up all the airspace. Esp with trolls its genuinely a negative to interact with them.

I agree. But I counter: isn’t it worse, much worse even, to let bigotry go unchallenged?

I think what op means is that, in that scenario, the 9 people should toss he nazi out the front door and go back to whatever they were doing before, not talk about whatever the nazi said the rest of the night. A lot of bigots of all types don’t care about getting figuratively thrown out, as long as their opinions get into others heads and discussions.

Well, there’s no mods here. No one has the power to throw them out. We cannot stop them from spewing hate here. So the best remaining option is to protest their hate. Is to resist.

But youre feeding them and prolonging it

The alternative is letting them spew hate unchallenged.

Then what is the alternative?

Quit beating the dead horse and quit giving agitators what they want. Also btw saying this as a transmasc lesbian who has only ever encountered this discourse online. It does not do anything to help me alls it does is put my identity up for debate

So they’re just allowed to say shit without getting called out? Yeah I don’t find that acceptable.

I think youre misunderstanding. Like whats the point of this argument tbh. Who is it helping. Youre talking past me and just reiterating your point and thats what im trying to say is that those conversations dont go anywhere and so often its people looking for pushbacknin order to keep ppls identities up for debate meanwhile if we just downvoted or reported and went on our way thatd also show it being unacceptable without engaging in pointless debate where neither party even engages eachother

A couple of things. First. These posts and comments aren’t being downvoted enough, because they stay up. These identities ARE being questioned, as stupid as it is. Second. People don’t stop posting about stuff just because they don’t get attention. I understand where that assumption comes from, but it just isn’t true.

And finally. The point, as I’ve said, is to show that these ideas are not accepted, are not acceptABLE. If the conversation went somewhere, that would be counter to the point. Commenting is a performance, and the audience is not who you’re responding to, but the people who are not performing. I’m going to keep performing that bullshit is not acceptable.

This community has said a million times that it's not accepted. Prolonging this discourse when the dominant opinion is so clearly not regressive is counterintuitive and annoying af for many of those whose identities are being erroneously questioned by bad faith actors. Of course this is diff in real life but on yikyak atp its taking up everyones energy when we could just report it and show positive solidarity

Okay this is probably going to be my last response. Do you think that people aren’t reporting? Do you think that people aren’t showing positivity? Those can be done WHILE not tolerating bull.

I see what you’re saying, but there’s a big difference between leaving a comment under a hateful post and creating a whole chain of responses and reposts. A comment can tell them off, but when it turns into a multi post mess, it just makes it more visible to others and suddenly it’s just the current main topic of the group.
