Who’s watching it pirated and the going to buy the real thing? How does someone getting a book or merch secondhand at a thrift shop platform her work or lead other people to engage monetarily? These options don’t contribute to her getting royalties to the extent you seem to think they do. Our main focus should be on people actively financially supporting her, not yelling at the people who are going out of their way to not support her
piracy maintains the cultural relevancy of a work and contributes to business decisions that actively line her pockets (ex. spin-offs, the new tv show, etc). beyond that, if i as a trans person see someone with hp merch it makes me uncomfortable. i dont care/know if it’s secondhand, i know someone is promoting a franchise which funds trans genocide.
the absolute worst is vendors at pride who are clearly just selling dropshipped bullshit. is JKR directly profiting of that? probably not. does it tell me that while i’m in a queer space that trans people’s comfort is not considered, or that if it is, it is subordinate to profit? yeah. loud and fucking clear.
