I’m cis, so I don’t need gender affirming surgery, but I’m chronically ill so have definitely been excited to have surgery and seeing the anesthesiologist be baffled by the excitement at something so serious, especially in a young person, is really funny to me. Anesthesiologists are the best!

my surgeon said the same thing. she got into the profession after a doc she was assisting refused to do the surgery for someone. this was maybe 2008. she was like, yeah, I guess i’ll do it instead. ended up falling in love with it and how grateful/easy/happy the patients are. she’s great at her job too.
