One of the common internet jokes I hate so much is “trump supporters must be gay because they worship a man” or “misogynistic men are secretly gay” like no they’re not they’re just bad people and the people who make those jokes are just homophobic

yes and - i don't think trump is homosexual but i do think he is homosocial which can be hard for some to distinguish at times

I mean idk if Trump is gay or not but I could see certain homophobic people being gay with their homophobia coming from how they feel like they can’t give into their desires because of religion and they see other people giving in and feel envy that they’re not living the same loneliness they are… it’s really sad and one of the reasons I think religion is so dangerous

The way I’ve seen other queer people perpetuate this too like this is going to harm you in the long run

no but i think both can be true. theyre just bad people who happen to be gay and in denial so they channel that into an aggressive hatred for queer ppl.

I think people just don't understand the purpose of this kind of comment. It's meant to cut the people it's insulting the deepest. By calling them gay you're directly coming for their fragile masculinity and homophobia. It's supposed to bruise their ego.

What is homosocial? I’ve never heard of it before

idk if it's even a real term but it's how i describe the type of heterosexual man who (to varying degrees) hates/resents women and does pretty much everything for the approval of men. think andrew tate; genuinely does not like women, does not like being around women, does not like having sex with women, yet still seeks out women to have relationships with simply to impress other men. to them, relationships with women are a status symbol for The Boys and little more

trump is very similar and his sassy/catty personality contributes to the "gay" vibe people pick up, but a discerning eye can tell the difference. he's not gay, he's just obsessed with men, manliness and masculinity to a degree that's deeply problematic and comes off similar to *some* DL men

And in doing so, you validate homophobia. You’re still using “gay” as an insult at the end of the day, and by doing so, you perpetuate the idea that being gay is undesirable.

Oh boy, out of 7 commenters I can only see 4 (including me). I don’t think that’s a good sign…

no yeah that’s 100% what people actually mean. anyone who lives in the deep south and similar conservative areas knows that the gay conservative joke is deeply rooted in truth. it’s not crazy to say that a man who very outwardly vocalizes his hatred for women, only being with them bc of cultural pressure, is likely closeted and in denial hence the homophobia/conservatism. so many of them ARE caught being gay on the dl. bad gay people exist, we can’t deny that just because we don’t like them lol
