May Day, y’all… it’s a yearly thing. not national in the sense of “everyone is doing it”, just in the sense that it’s a national holiday which many people celebrate by abstaining from paid (and/or institutional) labor or spending money

general strikes & protesting on May Day have been a very well-established practice in anarchist circles for decades and it’s gaining popularity amongst certain activist communities more recently—people framing it as common sense are probably just deeply involved in these particular scenes

may day - a labor holiday - is *not* a national strike. taking a holiday off and not spending money is *not* striking - it's observing a holiday tradition. there is no national strike. stop humoring tiktok larpers misuse of the word

may day is a labor holiday, but there is no national strike. just look to labor organizers and union leaders - nothing. a few protests here, a few demonstrations there, but absolutely nothing suggesting a national/general strike is going on

notice that I said, word for word, “it’s a national holiday which many people celebrate by abstaining from paid (and/or institutional) labor or spending money”. I explained what was actually being referred to. calm down please
