For the women who aren’t just fujoshis, I think part of why they enjoy MLM stories more is because of how most people (men) write women. They tend to be written in very misogynistic ways that makes them far harder to relate to, so they turn to stories where they’re far less likely to see those tropes

I’d also like to pitch that particularly with romance, there’s a lot of baggage with straight relationships. exploring toxic and unhealthy relationships is easier when it feels like the two characters are on equal ground, not historically me being oppressed by the other. Playing around with physical closeness and how that ties in to two people liking each other is easier when it isn’t automatically seen as romantic (hetero) or platonic (lesbian) by the rest of society.

Personally I enjoy their media but I think it’s also valid to say that a sizeable amount of women feel alienated from their shows and it’s okay to explore the hidden bias that leads to why

I haven’t heard any discourse about Gooseworx’s character writing until now, as a writer the charavters all seem about equally well-written (or poorly-written depending on standards), but writing mistakes like that are a natural product of indie animation. Vivziepop simply never does her research and grossly misrepresents identities, victims, and (ofc) women. it makes sense that someone who never does her research has all-around shitty charavters

Most of the criticism I see about Goose’s writing pertains to how the narrative treats Ragatha’s actions in addition to centering Jax and Kinger’s development over other characters. Some even argue that Pomni who is supposed to be the main character feels like a side character. Even though I enjoy the show, I can see how women can be disappointed in the representation of the characters. This is an example of how it’s difficult to write characters who are women in a satisfying way

When a male character is written poorly people see it as poor writing, when a female character is written poorly it’s seen as political because representation of women is already so low

also there’s a whole part of this involving sex in the way that dicks are seen and normalized through graffiti, dumb jokes, and literally everything else while vaginas are treated like an unsolvable mystery or a pure object. I think a lot of women also have unexamined shame and discomfort with their own genitals and don’t know how to interact with their own, never mind involving multiple so they’d rather imagine sex scenes with the genitals that society sees as “easier” to understand
