Yes it absolutely is a problem, but when called out for it they love to claim misogyny. It’s not misogyny to protect ourselves from homophobia. All we’re asking is to not be objectified. It’s not that hard

It is but every time you try to discuss it suddenly it’s the oppression olympics

I gotta respectfully disagree, because of two reasons: 1) Men have more power in society, so all other things being equal, the more impactful instance is more problematic 2) Women at least tend to include romance. Men tend to ignore that aspect in favor of just the making out…

like how straight men fetishize woman making out or having sex for their own pleasure because they think 2 girls making out is “hot” even tho lesbians for years have said how uncomfortable this makes them feel when being hit on by men irl and online

Okay, yeah, for a second I thought you were just going after people who read wlw/mlm romance novels or something.

oh no not at all. when it’s a fake world i don’t really care but when it’s impacting real people and their actual lives then yea it’s a problem

Like we’re all fetishized and it’s ALL BAD idc about measuring who has it the worst because that doesn’t fix the problem

Okay, thank you for clarifying.

agreed but just because men have more power in society should not and does not justify the fact that they’re fetishizing a group of people that have absolutely nothing to do with them. and while women do include romance which objectively makes it “better” still doesn’t make it okay especially since a lot of them use romance as a cover up for them being interested in mlm smut

I’m not saying men are justified in fetishizing women?!?!? I think the exact opposite, I’m saying it’s absolutely awful, where did you get that part from?

that’s probably my bad. i must’ve misunderstood when you said “the more impactful instance is more problematic.” can you explain just a bit more so i can actually understand

I have to disagree about the romance being a cover to smut as well. I think that, while that’s a common assumption, it’s just not founded in anything. Like seriously I think it speaks to our society’s conflation of sex and romance

I think that since men have more power, their fetishization of lesbians matters a lot more than women fetishizing gay men. That’s what I mean

i still have to disagree with this point tho. a huge example of women fetishizing mlm smut with the view of romance so they can keep on is Heated Rivalry. even on the biggest adult website 🟧⬛️ came out with stats that the main audience for gay adult movies is women.

let me push back on that for a few reasons. number one, its more like 50/50, with the small majority audience for gay porn being men. second, i think the reason a lot of women gravitate towards gay porn is bc straight porn is so often extremely degrading to women. if you're a woman who likes dick, and you don't want to see the way that women tend to be victimized and portrayed as objects when you're trying to get off, or if that just turns you off in general, then of course you'd prefer gay porn

i agree wholeheartedly and i’m taking into account that specific audience i promise. i’m mostly talking about them women who watch gay porn for the same reason that straight men watch lesbian porn.

particularly on pornhub which as you said is a more mainstream website, which is more likely to have the typical portrayal of women in porn which is just... demeaning and infantilizing. on indie porn sites theres more portrayals that arent done in such a way but idk it doesnt surprise me and i dont actually think it's the same as men watching lesbian porn

yeah i think my argument is that there's less women who are like that than there are men who are like that for lesbians, and even the women who are, are much less likely to be physically intimidating to or have social power over the gay men they fetishize. like the above commenter, i don't think it's not a big deal, or that it doesnt matter, but i think calling them equivalent is missing some nuance that even you seem to be acknowledging in this thread

I don’t really know how to phrase this in a way that doesn’t make me sound bitter (I’m not, I promise lol) but the internet is allergic to nuance and scale. Like it’s insane, people just pretend that they don’t exist half the damn time

Also, I’ll be that guy: the sentiment that this post expresses is rooted in misogyny. I’m not calling OP a misogynist, I want to be clear on that: but you don’t have to BE a misogynist to spread misogyny. You just have to be convinced that you’re right and so it can’t be misogyny.

after re-reading i want to point out im not calling them equal. im saying they’re both problematic regardless of how you frame it or how many stats we look at for each argument. both sides are equally problematic but they are not equal issues. that’s the point im making.
