THIS!!! Trump and MAGA are absolutely bringing our country in the wrong direction but the US is still objectively doing so well. A lot of my family came from a very poor country and I feel so lucky to have grown up here instead of there — America isn’t perfect but there’s waaaay worse

Like yeah it could be worse but saying that the US is “objectively doing so well” is just absolutely not true when people are losing their rights and essential branches of the government are being dissolved

America isn’t doing as well as we could be, I agree. But idk my grandpa came from a village with no electricity/ running water, absolutely 0 tolerance for gay people, and very limited education. And no, that village hasn’t improved all that much over the decades. Were I born there, I’d be married at 18 (or earlier lowk) and pregnant by now. Considering that, I’ll take living in the US, problems and all

Privileged ass. Go to any non-European, non-north American country, go to Ukraine or Russia, go to Gaza. Last night is proof our democracy still works. Things will get better.

Also if it wasn’t trump elected problems would still be getting worse. He’s just going to cause the collapse sooner than expected. The county has been doomed for decades

The system is corrupt and needs to be torn out from the roots before it can get better. One good person in a mayoral position doesn’t fix all of the bad people in the White House, Supreme Court, and parliament (not all of them are bad obv).

You get it. A lot of Americans lack a point of reference. The reality is MOST of the world is not a developed western/ East Asian country. America’s success/ luxury is truly the minority. People from all around the world would literally kill for a chance to be here. That’s not to say it’s perfect bc things are still messy here esp rn, but having that comparison is important. It drives me nuts when Americans say everything is falling to shit when they don’t know how bad reality is elsewhere

I don’t understand what you’re trying to say. America is in a rough spot right now, but we’ll bounce back. The recent election already shows a lot of progress. My grandparents basically survived a national collapse/ borderline civil war. They saw people literally killing each other in the streets over arbitrary divides. We’re not at that point. Not even close. Fear mongering is unproductive and only divides us

Also “we’re doing better than the country thats actively at war” isn’t the flex you think it is

I get what you’re saying and it’s a very valid point, but the fact that the rest of the world is shit compared to America (which is shit right now) doesn’t mean we should just be happy with how things are it means things are really bad and we should do something about it

That is completely not my point. Their country was at war decades ago and it’s still really messed up. My point is that most of the rest of the world is like that. The US, Australia, Western Europe, and East Asia are the minority — Americans don’t acknowledge or appreciate that fact.

No we are at that point when you have people going into the homes of lawmakers and shooting them

At no point did I say not to fight to make America better. I’m saying that when people say this country is total irredeemable trash it implies a cluelessness for how 70% of the rest of the world actually is.

Yeah that’s fucked up for sure. But political violence (while increasing) is a relatively minor issue in the US compared to much of the world. It’s still a problem that needs to be curbed though.

1000% agree. I feel very hopeful as a result of the past few days in hoping that we’re going to really start the fight back against tyranny in a democratic way

Just because my neighbor’s house is on fire doesn’t mean I can’t be upset that mine is flooded. The country isn’t 100% irredeemable trash but the system IS corrupt and needs at least a major reworking. Mamdani’s election is a step in the right direction but it certainly is not leaps and bounds. All I can do is hope I’m proved wrong, I guess.
