Alright yall I need ideas. I (AMAB NB 24) am going to start gender affirming care at Planned Parenthood soon(!) I’m still on my conservative parents’ insurance and I haven’t come out to them yet. What can I tell them when they ask why I’m going to PP?

Could always just say you needed some kind of exam

you’re taking a friend to get std/sti tested and they convinced you that you should too

Like what? For context the nearest one is like an hour away, so I gotta explain why I had to drive all the way out specifically to a planned parenthood

i figured when you said they were conservative but idk. not really many other services pp provides. maybe a UTI? it’s good to have an excuse prepared, but do u know for sure whether they can see what specific providers you go to? ik different insurances handle it differently, but once i turned 18 my parents stopped being able to see when i went to the dr.

I’m not totally sure, but i’ve asked around and ppl have said they get an invoice or something that says “Planned Parenthood” as well as the other doctors office names Idk if that made any sense, idk the insurance jargon

planned parenthood will give u the option to have their communication just list “doctors office” instead of pp specifically, the real issue is when it comes to explanation-of-benefits (EOBs), which are sent by your insurer. whether or not those EOBs get sent to parents of adult dependents and what they do/don’t list varies between carriers so unfortunately can’t help there. best to just be prepared they might find out :/

Yes, EOBs, that’s what I was trying to describe, thank you for your help!
