same with many red states! i grew up in appalachia and it’s disheartening to see people suggest we should be left behind. we are fighting for change too!

Me, a liberal queer woman in a wlw relationship, living in a violently red county in rural Georgia. 🙃 I’m a blue dot, but I’m not quiet about it. I want others to know I’m here and that they are not alone.

Not to mention that I feel like there’s a lot of northerners/city folk who will assume that southerners/rural folk are conservative and small minded just bc of where they come from and how they look. I imagine that it’s extremely disheartening to be driven away by people who won’t take the time to actually get to know who you are and what you believe.

I hate when a queer artist avoid the south all together during their tours. they have fans here, i shouldn't have to go five hours to DC to see them. they maybe hit Florida and Texas but that's it. The south is HUGEEE

So true, like people in the South and any place under hyper conservative rule aren't representative of the government

I’m from Alabama and it is really discouraging and difficult to see people say awful things about how people from where I’m from deserve to die in natural disasters or that we’re all dumb and racist hicks because of where we happen to live. Also you’re not going to persuade people by saying things like that, especially in the south.

Most Appalachian queer people I know (myself included), if not all, still vote blue here
