Honestly I wish I read the books first. For the heated rivalry book at least, it gives more context for the show and helps you understand Shane’s internal conflict. The show definitely brings the book to life for the better (and better fleshes out Illya’s character) but I still would recommend reading it first if you’re planning on reading the books at all.

It’s always good to read the books first I think, and they are pretty good I think. Very easy reads and obviously it’s pretty clear what they are about. It does give some additional context to all the characters.
