as a former xenopronoun user and current he/it the hatred some of you people have in your hearts for neurodivergent children exploring their identity and sense of self is really disheartening

It’s queerphobic and ableist in every regard, and it’s abhorrent. Let kids explore themselves and their identities and interests, protect creativity and exploration.

I notice less prejudiced hatred in queer circles and more lack of understanding and ignorance. I understand that non-binary identity is often confused as a ‘3rd gender’ and not a separation from colonial gender altogether, so xenopronouns have the appeal of intentional distinction from the typical grammar for non-binary english speakers. But others get confused or tied up on the grammatical precedence of they/them, especially since xenopronouns can be unfamiliar and difficult to integrate talki

I had a whole discussion recently with several people in this group who were trying to argue that xenopronouns and/or neopronouns were “going too far”, and responsible for making trans and nonbinary people “look like a joke”

I just feel like it’s a result of being too chronically online while too young. I haven’t met a single person irl who uses them, and I surround myself with queer people. The ones online who talk about it grew up and out of it too

I really did think the neopronouns thing wasn't necessarily a phase but just an exploration. Didn't make a lotta sense with the English language but I always tried, I think people just like character customization.

The existence of xeno and neo pronouns invalidates the existence of trans people, and I will die on this hill. Your need to feel different or special doesn’t give you the right to dictate others’ speech.

Yeah I’ve genuinely never had a problem with xenopronouns on a moral or judgmental level, I think what you said about them being unfamiliar/difficult to integrate is what most of us struggle with. I’m autistic and spoken language is already difficult for me, so adding new rules can be kind of frustrating to learn and keep track of. Obviously that’s not an excuse to disregard a person’s pronouns, just giving my perspective.

I agree with the other people. That IS a joke. And I am nonbinary.

I usually just said they/them for the ones that were like emojis or genuinely confusing terms. It wasn't ever that deep, like I'd see YouTubers whine about it all the time ans genuinely it's just people being people.

You’re invalidating identities and pronouns just because you refuse to educate yourself. Neopronouns detract nothing from Trans people.

Correct I’m invalidating them because they invalidate my own identity.

It’s really not that deep like the ones online I just didn’t engage with cause it was clear we were very different plus I didn’t want the trouble of navigating ‘pupself’🫩
