My theory is - it may stem from the need to ‘prove’ ourselves as gay men in several aspects - but ultimately, focus on you and your own goals! :)

It’s more like I look up to them, and their security in being out and gay, and it is something I still struggle with

That’s so real. I still struggle to be open and be myself, I still feel a lil embarrassed or ashamed to act different even tho I shouldnt
