if you’re a grown adult buying up squishies that you do not need, i am going to assume you have no maturity whatsoever. (this statement does not apply to neurodivergent peeps)

This gotta be bait. Whats wrong with whimsy and why do neurodivergent ppl get to be "immature" by your standard... giving infantilization lowkey

1. nothing wrong with whimsy. 2. neurodivergent people are not being infantilized, sometimes they need fidget toys for cognitive processing, hence why i explained that it doesn’t apply to them. 3. adults hoarding children’s toys solely because they are popular isn’t infantilization, it’s just wrong.

how do you know if someone who is buying all that stuff is neurodivergent or not. why do you care what other people do

notice how i specifically said that this was about adults buying up things they didn’t need. it was never up to me to say who was what, but rather a general opinion. you’re just taking this personal, so that’s a you issue.

the point is you’re carving out exceptions that something is only acceptable if they’re neurodivergent but you have no way of knowing what someone else’s needs are. i agree that consumerism is silly, but saying it’s totally acceptable only if you see that person as having a legitimate enough need leads to gatekeeping and is just kinda ableist. not everyone who has a disability will make it known or have the same needs or even know themself

also it’s just a weird thing to make an exception for because it doesn’t really change anything about the nature of consumerism and it’s a very very uncommon way to handle one’s sensory needs

you are judging someone for buying plushies except if they’re neurodivergent but you have no idea who is neurodivergent and who is not. you are not the authority to judge whether someone is “allowed” to have plushies or not based off of something you cannot tell from person to person. it’s not a hard concept to grasp
