Me, a trans woman… 6’ tall, heavy, weak… and this is the highest my natural testosterone has been in YEARS. I can’t lift things my cis women friends can, I struggle to open things sealed tightly (even my own water bottles), even though I’m the one that intentionally works out with weights. I can’t hold my breath as well as my cousin who is a lot smaller than me. Almost like individual variation within a gender is often greater than the average differences between genders. 😱
I’ve seen women athletes cry because said “women”can easily win over them because their starting point is much higher. Years of hard training slammed by opponents who aren’t at their level. Therefore I support this wholeheartedly, because I actually care about someone other than myself.
the idea of this rule is targeting women who do not fit into what gross men have decided is femininity. and also there are already rules put into place for trans women to compete in olympic sports that already address fairness. this is an attack on women who do not fit the status quo of "acceptable women" and therefor IS and attack. mind you- you never see this kind of push against trans men in mens sports bc the people who make these rules hate women.
Femininity is a social construct. Testosterone level is a clear, measurable number. They have no relation whatsoever. I am very confused on your point that “such push doesn’t exist in men sports”. What’s your point. If a person has significant higher testosterone levels, they should be put up with athletes with similar testosterone levels. This is how you ensure fairness in sports. Notice that I didn’t mention anything about gender/sex while explaining my point.
And by the way, this decision was based on scientific research, as said in the article, not on “gross men’s bias on femininity”. So until more reliable scientific research proved otherwise, it is a laughable act to use your label as a tool for pretending to be a victim. Bias exists, and we should work together on eliminating them, but not on this one.
The testosterone requirements disproportionately affect cis women of color and intersex individuals who would otherwise be considered female. Aside from harming the women directly affected, this has caused harm to communities of color in international social perceptions. Also in general, athletes are already at the biological extremes of human form and ability, so marking people as “too extreme” with a formal barrier is quite strange to me.
except these rules are not used in the term, i think the way you blissfully ignore the issues that come with this rule is disquieting. cis women HAVE been pushed out of their own sports due to transvestigating because they dont appear feminine enough. we saw this in the last olympics. the fact that this rule is even extending to cis women is raising flags. and my point was very clear. these people never mention trans men in mens sports because of their bias towards men and masculinity.
(extended) the reason this is an issue is that people cannot control their biology. in all our time in history we never questioned a cis womans testosterone levels for sports. this is only happening due to transphobia and misogyny. men in sports are not screened for estrogen levels and are never under the same scrutiny which directly points to how the patriarchal society policies women and their bodies and try to control how they operate in their own spaces.
Do u mean testosterone levels also differ depending on races? If so then comparisons should be made within the same race to determine which group should an athlete belong to. Science has proven that ppl with higher testosterone levels have an advantage, even when it comes to top physical conditions. Therefore people with similar levels should be matchmaked together. It’s that simple, I don’t see what u mean by “too extreme”. Are you saying barriers shouldn’t exist at all-
That’s because trans men usually have a disadvantage when competing with natural men??? Are you saying that trans men with a lower testosterone level should be considered as a female? If so I agree with you because this is fairer for both sides. Teachers would only care about those who cheats in an exam but not those who intentionally bombs an exam, I can’t believe I’m explaining this??
1. You are tone deaf if you can’t see how this article DIRECTLY ADDRESSES the nonexistent “trans women with male testosterone levels” who are competing in the Olympics. This is some of the most obvious fear mongering possible. 2. You never addressed my point on why the Olympics cares exclusively about the “advantage” which conveniently makes people believe trans women with “male testosterone levels” are “invading” sports. 3. No one here takes you seriously since you base everything on vibes.
Oh I dunno, they’re probably the kind of person who is tired of seeing people like you strip their basic human rights away and deflect all criticism under a guise of “civility.” Your tone may be civil but the things you support are still just as violently destructive and must be pushed back against in as strong terms as possible, even if poor poor you feels insulted.
Why do you think it’s okay to keep others out of things because they are different? I know you’re a troll, but the fact you even resort to this mindset for “fun” is disturbing. Have you no empathy? What or whom hurt you to the point where you cannot grasp the basic concepts your own community was founded upon??
are you being intentionally dense? never at all did i say trans men are women. what i am saying is the public SCRUTINY. your "logic" is stupid and hypocritical. "a teacher only cares about students who cheat and not those who intentionally bomb it" is probably the worst analogy ive ever seen. however i wouldnt expect someone like you to understand basic intelligence because clearly you just love twisting everyone elses point while deflecting the actual issue by saying to most devolved things
because differences gate you. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but certain things you are innately exclude you from certain activities. I am a man therefore i cannot get pregnant. being a man and getting pregnant are biologically mutually exclusive. Also raising the emotional stakes of this to be “disturbing” and saying i have “no empathy” is crazy. You’re making a monster out of me when i haven’t said anything demeaning nor rude. I simply disagree with you. Calm it down
yeah i think you should be able to compete. I think the reason they added that part was to get rid of women doping rather than trans people. if you just naturally have higher levels of testosterone good for you, but as long as you’re born a female and didn’t do testosterone i see no issue. That rule is a bit ridiculous
Also, take into account that it isn’t always about gender identity or being trans. I am nonbinary, but I was also AFAB. I have PCOS. It causes me to have almost the same testosterone as a typical male. I cannot control this. So this rule is dumb, because everyone has different hormones!
