One idea I have for accountability (this will require more than one solution of course): there need to be research into developing brain scans that will identify pedophiles before they offend.

we need free and universal access to mental health services, not commitment or screenings. most people do want to get help for their thoughts because they know it’s dangerous. its the ones that don’t recognize that that are out doing illegal shit and hurting people

you cannot arrest someone for simply having a thought. there needs to be a way to punish judges for giving bs sentences to pedos, rapists, sex offenders etc

so fun fact people who have ocd can have these intrusive thoughts and be absolutely disgusted by them and they shouldn’t be punished for it

I didn’t mention the next part: civil commitment in mental hospitals.

+ algorithmic policing exists and what it does is use past data criminalizing marginalized people to justify maintaining existing power dynamics and oppression. it’s becomes a chicken-and-egg situation, ex. datasets are skewed to more harshly punish black people so the machines learn from that data and suggest longer disproportionate sentences for black people under the guise of “impartiality” because it’s a machine and not a white judge.

Its tricky because there being long sentences (or the death penalty as some suggested) would likely have the unintended effect where the jury is going to be even less inclined to give a guilty verdict, and these cases are already rarely taken to court, our justice system is so deeply broken

I’ve heard that ovey harsh sentences could encourage perpetrators to murder their victims because they wanna get away with it or because they have nothing left to lose. I don’t claim to have all the answers. But I wanna do my part to help. And I like to focus on prevention.

And I wanna clarify that I am not talking about arrest. I’m talking about civil commitment in mental hospitals.
