I saw so many straight women reduce heated rivalry to raunchy p*orn so I was lowkey expecting something like that when I watched it. Turns out it was a beautiful queer love story that made me teary eyed even as a gay woman. 10/10 me want more movie

I’m a gay man and I haven’t watched it bc I was a cynic in regards to public reception from the very start when I heard about it and bc of that I feel discouraged to watch it knowing that it has already been reduced to porn. I know straight women are basically just watching this to get off to some degree. Like why watch it when I already know it’s just media meant for straight women to fetishize male queerness that they have historically been aiding and abetting the eradication of while…

It’s a super touching show actually, and to me the conversation between Shane and his mom after his parents found out really impacted me. It was short but so sweet and heartbreaking at the same time

It kind of reminds me of the stigma surrounding brokeback mountain I was always told it was the “gay cowboy porn” movie but I watched it and it was so much more than that and there honestly wasn’t that much “raunchy” content in it

i don't use this community much bc im not queer and an ally but yes this is what i thought and was more than pleasantly surprised. it was also so refreshing not seeing the same 20 actors in something bc i feel like now and days. its a great show!! i would say everyone should watch watch but the sex scenes r definitely for adults lol

I beg of you all to watch Moonlight because yes, he would probably is a queer love story. It is also porn and that’s ok I heard it’s definitely better than the books which are like straight porn but with a halfway decent plot but like there is really good and thought provoking queer media out there and while heated rivalry is a start it is definitely not the finish line

I’m ace and the first few episodes were a hard watch ngl but the plot is what kept me going. From episode ONE you could feel the genuine love and admiration between them which cannot be said about a lot of straight slowburn couples.

coming from a bi woman, the kip and scott episode had me crying bc that was literally me and my ex. it’s a beautiful show fr. yes it’s sexy, but it has such a good portrayal of queer relationships.

And then to have the BOLDNESS to say that this media was not meant for the very people it represents. I believe the show is genuinely beautiful. It is a show that highlights that we need more honesty and emotional sincerity in the world, but public reception by pop culture and, more specifically, the straight people it caters to has kind of tarnished any first impression that this show might offer

I understand. As a pansexual woman who consumes gay and sapphic media I too get uncomfortable around straight people who fetishize our community. Many authors are also guilty of doing that too and add weird tropes like in*est and p*dophilia into their stories and romanticize it which is incredibly damaging. I had the same thoughts as you before watching it. But I’ve learned that the author of the book is a bisexual woman and had asked her bisexual husband for his opinions when writing the books.

The director of the series is also a gay man. If you watch the show it is very clear that it was not written for straight women at all. Those people who say it is are just really weird and stupid. I promise

Oh yes I definitely heard that and that’s what I think makes it even more beautiful is for it have been written by a queer woman who then asked her QUEER husband to confirm the accuracy and then for it to be directed by a queer man. That is the level of command I want to see us have in our own stories within media and greater culture. But the other half of this contribution to culture is the work’s reception and how we participate in it, which is that part I feel unsteady about

i was a little suspicious of it at first cos of the hubbub around it from straight women but then i watched it on my own and it completely broke me down. i only really talk about it in person with other queer people and i’ve found that most of us can relate to it one way or another and the perception of the show from queer people is VERY different than the perception from straight women.

I watched it with my friend and we are both ace with varying degrees of sex-repulsion. Admittedly we skipped past all of the sex scenes but we still enjoyed the overarching story immensely.

I doubt the Canadian government would pay to produce something that was just porn (yes they helped fund it, I ❤️ 🇨🇦). But as a queer person whos in a relationship with a Russian person, I totally get the desire to watch it in a less scary world. It completely emotionally gutted me after each episode. There’s a reason this show inspires real life gay athletes to come out and it’s not the sex scenes. I don’t remember a single one of those but I do remember the emotional sledge hammers

It’s certainly a part of it but not all, also the second book is a lot less about sex and more about them navigating the relationship (to my recollection) so if that’s not really your thing season 2 will probably be better for you

Ok I did my own research. The account that was tweeting about Hudson calling him a homophobic straight man is literally labeled as a parody account on the app. They spend all day making fun of him. Also he never confirmed that he has a girlfriend or that he’s straight. People just like to speculate apparently. Come on bro😐

He will never confirm it since he is gay for pay like quite literally but people active saw him hide her off his account

See you’re speculating that he is “gay for pay” and so what if he plays a gay character and potentially has a girlfriend? From what I’ve seen he actively supports our community and even uplifts other queer films like moonlight. I don’t expect actors who play characters to have the same sexuality as their characters. Natasha Lyonne for example plays many queer characters but isn’t herself. But she supports. This is such a weird mindset to have

And also bisexuality and pansexuality exists. So many celebrities come out as bi/pan and get hate for “queerbait” if they date the opposite sex. It’s weird

If I got famous for a gay role I too would support the queer community but as a member of the community it would be a better use of our time to uplift actual queer people and if he comes out he should be welcomed but idk also he uses AAVE which is a red flag
