Genuine question gang don't flame me, why do ppl get so bothered when 'gay' is used as a blanket term? If you're gay you're gay... if you're bi you're still gay if you're lesbian you're still gay if you're queer you're still gay whats the issue

I mean I use it as a blanket term for MYSELF, and I understand people using it as a blanket term in general, but if one of my bi friends or whatever was like “hey please use my specific label I prefer that” I’d be like “oh okay cool nbd.” Everybody gets to choose how they want to be referred to.

i think people like specifics? in my experience, it was a lot about how gay was meant for men and then there were terms for everything else and queer is a better word for it

Bimisogyny, ppl think all bi people are secretly only attracted to men. it’s also a little annoying to be called “just gay” when you’re a bi guy, bc in general ppl don’t think you can exist, you’re either exclusively attracted to women or like one guy and suddenly you’re incapable of liking women. I only rlly like it when other gay people call me gay bc ik for a fact they mean it in the umbrella way.

Imo people want to feel special, and using one singular term doesn’t scratch the itch

Seconding. I also think a lot of people will say things about "the gay community" that really do just apply to gay/lesbian folks and not LGBTQ+ people with other sexualities. We have a shared struggle but not always shared experiences if that makes sense
