like the world building is shit and full of plot holes, the magic system doesn’t make sense, and none of the characters grown and change in any meaningful ways

I agree the books suck and jkr is even worse, but the fan works are typically pretty well thought out and I will continue to consume them and rework the whole thing into my until the story is 99% headcanons

Seriously, people tell the story of Rowling having to go to a bunch of different publishers before she found one to publish HP like it’s inspirational. All of that is undercut by the fact that Harry Potter 1 is a steaming pile of hot garbage

I really enjoyed the books as a kid. But yeah as an adult I’m able to recognize that they’re objectively not very good. There’s still a nostalgia component but JKR sucks and I’m trans so she shall get no more money outta me lol

And yet you’re still engaging with the IP and others think that’s okay and go about monetarily supporting her as a result. It wasn’t a good series. The nostalgia is not worth people’s lives.

Yeah, you’re allowed to enjoy shit media. This is shit media that funds trans genocide. And any engament with the franchise IS a promotion of it, is taken as endorsement by the companies that watch us, and used to further their terrible agenda. I have nostalgia for Harry Potter, and I like shitty media. But I don’t engage with it because of that. Because it’s wrong to

Pirating, buying second hand, and engaging in fanworks doesn’t support or fund Rowling and her genocide campaign

They do, though. Not fund directly, but we live in an attention and engagement economy. They generate social capital, which spends just as well as the real thing. She’s not Orson Scott Card, where all the Ender’s Game fans unanimously agree he’s awful. HP fans don’t discuss Rowling at all if they can avoid it; they’re willing bystanders

rather than #7 “colonizing the fandom”, it sounds more like Rowling is the one colonizing territory in #7’s brain with her IP

Animorphs was so legit. K. A. Applegate really took a look at the climate of mid-90s USA, said “these next couple generations are gonna grow up to be full of furries, conspiracy theorists and obsessive body horror appreciators” and got right to work on crafting an age-appropriate introduction to those kinds of themes

And respected the audience enough to write an actual war narrative that wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows at the end. There was grief and loss. People didn’t make it. It hit home
