The only people saying this joke are bisexuals saying it about themselves
i hate the whole “bi people only get half the month to celebrate” “joke” because it perpetuates the idea that bi people aren’t as queer as everyone else

i have not seen bi people say this about themselves, i’ve seen other queer people say it

I second #1s comment. I see plenty of non-bi people (both queer and not queer) saying this, either joking or serious.

This is such a non issue I think you just want to be offended at something - A bi guy

i’m a bi girl and i hate comments like this cause it opens the door for more biphobia. just because you don’t mind it doesn’t mean that other people think the same way as you. people are allowed to be hurt over “jokes” that are at the expense of their community and existence

Biphobia doesn’t exist what you’re experiencing is homophobia and it’s a struggle we all have in the LGBTQ+ community

are you dumb?? biphobia is the prejudice and discrimination toward bi people. people believe that bisexuality isn’t a “real” sexuality, and the way that bi people get treated as “less than” in the queer community shows that biphobia is real.

“it’s a struggle we all have” we SHOULDN’T though, that’s the point i’m trying to get at. all orientations in the queer community should be treated as equal, but some just aren’t (like bisexuality)

There is no systemic subjugation of bi people that isn’t also being done to trans and gay people. It’s a non issue

a “non issue” to you is people believing that bi people aren’t as queer as the rest of the community and use “jokes” at the expense of our identity?

I’m sorry can you point to a single way that our rights are being stripped away by gay people?

I bring this up because it’s the same reason black people can’t be racist. Racism is prejudice plus power and there is no power within any institution regarding biphobia that isn’t just homophobia

when did i ever say that queer people are taking our rights?? all i said is that there are people, in and out of the community, who don’t see bisexual people as queer because we’re still attracted to the opposite gender. THAT is a problem. bi people are just as queer as gay men and lesbian women. and we should be treated as such, instead of making “you only get half the month cause you’re half straight” comments.

If lesbians making a few jokes is enough to constitute biphobia then you don’t have the perspective of the horrors of homophobia

yea sure okay let’s go with that. my parents are maga, i deal with homophobia from them every single day. im constantly being berated for my sexuality, being told that i was a mistake, that im living in sin, that they should’ve sent me to conversion therapy, that they’d rather me dead than queer. but sure, i dont have “perspective” of what homophobia is

Same here sister, I can relate in many ways! That’s homophobia. Biphobia isn’t backed by institutions (in this case religion and government) quite like homophobia. Queer people don’t have the institutional power to harm bisexual people

so people who aren’t bi but are still queer saying that bi people “only get half the month” to celebrate isn’t harmful? or saying that bi people aren’t fully queer isn’t harmful?

both of these phrases, among others, have led me to hate my sexuality for so long and not understand why i wasn’t seen within the community. so yes, it can be harmful to people.

Could it be annoying? Sure, and you have the right to not like the joke. You have the right to dislike the people who make the joke. But don’t pretend that it’s as serious as actual homophobia

it is serious because it invalidates bi people’s identity

If you feel targeted by queer people acknowledging the privilege that bi people have that’s something you have to look inward about

how are ANY of the things that i have said related to me disagreeing about privilege. all i have been stating this whole time is how it sucks not being welcomed in queer spaces because im seen as “half straight” and simply not as a queer person. i don’t even have much attraction to the opposite sex so i don’t have as much privilege as you think all bi people do. you’re so dense. you ask for explanations on another post, yet you don’t hear anybody out and understand where anyone is coming from

Listen if we disagree that’s fine. At the end of the day, I see bi jokes from the queer community like I see jokes about men from women. When women joke about men I don’t let myself feel targeted about it because I understand there’s an understandable reason to express anger. When queer people make jokes about bi people I don’t let myself feel targeted because I understand there’s understandable reason to express anger. Sometimes it isn’t about you and that’s okay.
