fellow trans people, how would it be best to manage applying for an internship?? i desperately need the job, but i fear applying with my chosen name will screw me over but i do not want to be closeted at work; please help 😭

i’ve used my chosen name for all of my internship applications. the only people who need to know your legal name is HR for paperwork once you get hired but otherwise all of my bosses and coworkers knew me by my chosen name.

If you haven’t legally changed it yet, perhaps Deadname ‘real name’ last name. Richard ‘Bobby’ Smith, as some random example.

like i’ve had my chosen name on my ID badges for both of my internships. i know some applications will say put your legal name in the box but i don’t even do that anymore (i haven’t legally changed my name yet) cos then i’ll get emails back with my legal name. if they insist on using your legal name for everything then it prob isn’t a great place for a trans person to work.
