I want to clarify that I am not disagreeing with the OP’s points in the comments about the watering down of “fascist” and the hypocrisy in a lot of online queer, leftist spaces. I just felt that creating an exaggerated strawman caricature of a licenseless, chronically online, Disney obsessed queer person calling people a fascist for drinking strawberry lemonade after watching leftist video essays isn’t really helping the problem, if that makes sense? 😅
Like it’s easy to hate on, and laugh at that caricature hypocritical leftist, because calling someone a fascist for drinking strawberry lemonade is purposefully absurd. Strawmen sort of take away the nuance, though, and tend to exaggerate. It creates the kind of dismissive effect that is often used to make people complaining about actual problems, seem crazy. Of course I am not saying that is the intention of the OP in any way, shape, or form.
While it may not be strawberry lemonade, I’ve seen people call others fascists for eating hummus, which at first seems absurd. That is until you realize that money going to purchase hummus made by Sabra is helping to fund the genocide in Palestine. I guess what I’m trying to explain is that strawman arguments, even one’s with good intentions and truthful aspects, are still reductive & lacking in nuance, and can therefore accidentally do harm towards unintended groups and legitimate arguments
