I work at a grocery store. I said merry Christmas to a woman because she said it to me (I usually say happy holidays unless they specifically tell me merry Christmas first) and she was like “THABK YOU FOR SAYING THAT no one says it anymore all this ‘happy holidays’ shit when people are thinking about how Jesus made Christmas” blah blah blah… little does that woman know I’m an atheist lol 😂
The thing is they don’t WANT other religions to exist and want to live in their little safe space that never challenges them. They want everyone on Earth to be a white picket fence-having standard 1950s conformist American Christian family with 2 cars, 2.5 kids, and no minorities or people that confuse and scare them. Of course, they’d get bored of that pretty quickly and if they ever got their wish they’d start tearing each other apart over which specific sect of Christianity they follow…
Technically some of those things are still religious. Santa Claus was based on Saint Nick which is Christian, he just started the Christian tradition. And the evergreens with decorations are actually pagan to celebrate the winter solstice! (Most of Christmas traditions are honestly either consumerism or pagan in origin which is odd for something supposedly a Christian holiday)
To explain the trees a little more, it was to light up the tree to ward off the dark and cold. They stayed green and unchanging in the winter which is why those specific trees were chosen for that, and the lights were symbolic to the days getting longer and warmer again. I honestly think the real meaning behind the trees is quite beautiful, but you don’t need to chop the tree down to do any of those things!
Okay I just learned a little more of the lore on why Christmas is so pagan 😂 it’s because of Constantine (4th century) when he made Christianity their official religion they changed the date of Christ’s birth to be celebrated at the same time as their existing pagan holidays and so they could keep their traditions and rituals while bringing in Christianity so the people wouldn’t be upset about the change in religion. They didn’t really celebrate Jesus’s birth until then interestingly enough
