I think it might depend on what the tattoo is if it's a show that means a lot to them then i don't think there's anything weird about that, even if they aren't the target audience. like I'm aroace and I connect deeply to a lot of queer media although none of it applies to me yk but if they're getting the tattoo just to appear subversive or if the tattoo itself is kind of fetishizing then that'd be super weird
I truly don’t know why a straight woman would resonate super strongly with gay shows. Unless she’s also like trans or something? I could see a movie like brokeback mountain resonating as like, not hiding yourself and how sad it is to not be able to be yourself and loosing people idk. But either way, maybe you watched brokeback mountain and really loved it and it changed your life 15-20 years ago, maybe tattoo is okay. If you watched heated rivalry two months ago, wait.
i mean this respectfully, but saying that non-queer ppl can’t “remotely relate” to queer stories is actually harmful. it’s part of why (for ex.) queer media struggles to get funded/greenlit. it’s also just untrue and othering. there are many cishet stories i relate to or find meaningful despite not being cishet. to extend it further, similarly there are many pieces of non-white or international that i find meaningful—i don’t have to be represented to empathize or recognize universal themes.
